The Story Behind Lighting Orlando Purple
Lighting Orlando Purple was born from one simple belief:
No survivor should ever feel invisible.
After years of serving survivors of domestic violence through Nuevo Sendero, Dr. Diana Mejía envisioned a public movement that would unite an entire city in support of prevention, awareness, and hope.
What began as a symbolic lighting ceremony has become one of Central Florida’s most meaningful community initiatives, bringing together government leaders, corporations, nonprofit organizations, survivors, and hundreds of community members every year.
Each purple light reminds survivors that they are seen.
Each partnership reminds them they are not alone.
Today, Lighting Orlando Purple continues growing as a movement that inspires education, prevention, healing, and collective action.
