Nuevo Sendero Celebrates the Graduation of the “Sowing Hope” Self-Sufficiency Academy in Orlando

Orlando, FL – August 28, 2025. The nonprofit organization Nuevo Sendero Foundation proudly celebrated the third edition of the graduation ceremony for its “Sowing Hope” Self-Sufficiency Academy, held at the Florida Technical College auditorium in Orlando.

This emotional event brought together community leaders, special guests, families, and supporters of Nuevo Sendero’s mission, who gathered to honor the achievement of ten survivors—brave women who successfully completed a training program designed to foster economic independence, strengthen self-esteem, and open doors to new opportunities.

The ceremony featured remarks from Dr. Diana Mejía, Founder and CEO of Nuevo Sendero; Matty Frías, Director of the Academy; and Olga Castaño, General Coordinator. Inspiring messages were also shared by Mr. Máximo Talotta, Chancellor of Florida Technical College; Representative Johanna López; and Jackie Espinosa, Mayor of the City of Kissimmee. The event also included a heartfelt speech on behalf of the graduates by Linda Edwook.

In an atmosphere filled with joy and accomplishment, and with the support of Esperanza United, each graduate received a certificate and a $2,500 grant to launch or expand their personal projects. This gesture symbolized recognition, empowerment, and hope—reaffirming Nuevo Sendero’s ongoing commitment to education as a tool for preventing domestic and sexual violence, and for promoting self-sufficiency and lifelong opportunities.

“Each graduate represents a story of resilience and a new beginning. Our commitment is to continue sowing hope and walking alongside them on their path of personal and professional growth,” expressed Dr. Mejía.

The event concluded with a message of motivation and unity, reaffirming Nuevo Sendero’s vision of empowering survivors and strengthening communities through education, faith, and action.
