Nuevo Sendero Successfully Hosts 4th Edition of the Sexual Violence Summit 2026 in Orlando

Orlando, Florida – Nuevo Sendero, a non-profit organization with over 20 years of service to survivors of domestic and sexual violence, successfully hosted the fourth edition of its Sexual Violence Summit 2026 on April 29 at the Rio Pinar Golf Club in Orlando.

The event brought together community leaders, government representatives, healthcare professionals, legal experts, partner organizations, survivors, and members of the media for an educational day focused on the prevention, education, and awareness of sexual violence.

During the Summit, various panels were held featuring prominent professionals who addressed key topics such as the impact of sexual violence on families, legal rights, sex trafficking and technology, workplace harassment, as well as strategies for awareness, education, and prevention. The day proved to be highly enriching, fostering spaces for dialogue, reflection, and community engagement.

As part of the program, Nuevo Sendero presented special awards to Chief Deputy Carlos R. Torres; to the organizations Family Health Source, AdventHealth, and the University of Central Florida (UCF); and to Commissioners Maribel Gómez Cordero and Mayra Uribe, in recognition of their leadership and commitment to the fight against violence in our communities.

Dr. Diana Mejía, CEO and founder of Nuevo Sendero—joined by Linsy Di Pietro, Vice President, and Matty Frias, the organization’s Director—received two official proclamations recognizing their community work. These honors were presented by Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings and Senator Kristen Arrington, highlighting the organization’s impact on prevention efforts and support for survivors. The event reaffirmed the importance of inter-institutional collaboration and the role of the community in eradicating sexual violence, solidifying this Summit as a key forum for education and action.

“Education and prevention are fundamental tools for breaking the cycle of violence. This Summit represents the power of a united community advocating for healing, justice, and hope,” stated Dr. Diana Mejía, President and CEO of Nuevo Sendero. For her part, Matty Frías, Director of the Sexual Violence Program, highlighted: “Each year, this Summit allows us to open necessary conversations and generate concrete actions. Our commitment is to continue educating, preventing, and fostering safer, more informed communities.”

Nuevo Sendero extends its gratitude to the panelists who shared their knowledge and experiences; to the lead sponsors: Hispanic Federation, Family Health Source, The Rivas Law Firm, Advent Health, the UCF Victim Service Center, Addition Financial, and Susalud Pro, as well as to the partner organizations in attendance, media outlets, and volunteers, whose collaboration made the realization of this important community event possible.

Nuevo Sendero reaffirms its commitment to continue developing initiatives that promote restoration, empowerment, and healing for survivors and their families, while providing education to prevent sexual violence throughout the entire community.
